About the Ballets
The Rough-Face Girl | Choreography by Julianna Rubio Slager
The Algonquin tribe’s folklore of The Rough-Face Girl is one of the most haunting, powerful versions of the Cinderella tale ever told. In a village by the shores of Lake Ontario lived an invisible man. All the young women wanted to marry him because he was rich, powerful, and supposedly very handsome. But the legend was that to marry the invisible man the women had to prove to his sister that they had seen him. And none had been able to get past the sister's stern, all-knowing gaze.
Then came The Rough-Face Girl, scarred from working by the fire. Could she succeed where her beautiful, cruel sisters had failed?

Grief is inescapable. Every culture has different rituals to process grief, yet a strand of shared humanity exists in the ebb and flow of grief. We can turn away from the five stages of grief, shield ourselves from the pain of a lost future, but we find that when we face our suffering, the darkest of night can give way to the warmth of morning.

In times of trouble, we find our strength in God. When we fall short, we rejoice that He never fails. Set to the music of Kanye West, Jon Guerra and Lauren Daigle, Mercy will, “sing ‘til the power of the Lord comes down.”
